We're very proud to announce the 3.0 "Glory" release of Gaia Ajax Widgets. First of all we would like to thank all of our users and customers for their great feedback which have lead us to many of the new features and improvements in this release.
Download Let's walk through some of the most important new controls and improvements which you will get.
4 New Widgets
- Extended Button: A skinned button with functionality like Toggled, ImageCssClass and easy to customize the looks.
- Extended Panel: A panel which you can expand, collapse, move and skin just as you'd like. Just as powerful and easy to use as you are used with in Gaia.
- Calendar: Navigate to and select a date in Ajax speed. It follows the UI Culture pattern and has standard .NET localization. No more struggle with dates and JavaScript...
- Slider: Give your users access to advanced functionality in no time with our new slider control. Returns a double value between 0 and 100.
8 Widgets Completely Rebuilt
- TreeView: Can now be Static, meaning the HTML is rendered at first load and it will be readable for search engines. Another great news is that you now can have any Gaia control as a child control, giving you an unlimited flexibility in what kind of grid you want to build. Other news are: Drag and Drop (between treeviews as well), easy to skin, icons per item, low bandwith + WYSIWYG in Visual Studio.
- Window: We have built it completely from scratch and the result is a high performing and flexible container control. Resize, drag and create modal and great looking windows in no time.
- Menu: Build your menus in design time in Visual Studio, and add any type of child control you would like. And of course it is XHTML compliant and easy customizable.
- DateTimePicker: Is based on our new Calendar control and gives you a much more powerful and good looking control with UI Culture settings and standard .NET localization.
- AutoCompleter: Format and design the autocompleter items easily with the use of our new XhtmlTagFactory. Keywords: speed and flexibility.
- Accordion: Use this container control to group, hide and show content easily and give your users a smooth web experience.

Visit our samples to get the new feeling 100% XHTML Compliant
All our widgets now produce beautiful XHTML according to the standards which we love so much. For you this means that search engines will love Gaia even more and browsers will render the HTML much faster.
Core Refactored - Even Faster
The core is completely re-factored on the server side. In addition the JavaScript is much faster and more stable.
Backwards Compatibility
Because of the great improvements in this release, we were forced to make some hard decisions, and some of the widgets are not backwards compatible from previous releases. This also goes for elements in the API like our Aspects. Read detailed information about this in our changelog.
Create your own Ajax widgets or XHTML code only with C#
Many of the widgets in Gaia are actually written only with C# thanks to our great base controls and our new XhtmlTagFactory. The XhtmlTagFactory is great for just creating XHTML compliant code from the server also:
New Documentation
All public methods and properties in the C# code are now well documented. In addition you will find a code example attached to each widget.

Introduction, Hello World, Combine Gaia with other libraries, Aspects, Effects, Compose XHTML and Custom Controls Licenses Upgraded
We have upgraded and improved our licensing. What we earlier called "Gaia Commercial License" is now called "Gaia Proprietary License".
You can read our new license terms here.We are also upgrading to GPL v3 license. We do this to make it easy and safe for developers to use Gaia with the most recent licenses from the Free Software Foundation. New in this release is also that Gaia will run the GPL license as default when you install it.
Other Changes
- We're changing versioning name. No more Q1, Q2 etc. Now we have standard Major.Minor versioning. So the new version is 3.0
- You don't need to register or have a license file anymore to start testing and developing Gaia. Now everything runs GPL as default. When you want to remove the GPL statement produced in the HTML, you just buy a proprietary license. Choose between developer and domain/server
- We are switching currency to US dollar.
Your Licensing Options
Basically you have to decide whether you fulfill the GPL terms or you need to purchase a Gaia Proprietary License.
You can use our
new product selector to determine what license is best for you.

what does licence paragraph 3.2 mean? "You may not use the Program to: a) create a product with the same or substantially the same functionality as the Program; or b) create a development library, toolkit, component or framework." Can the widgets not be used in DotNetNuke modules, that shall be sold?

It basically means that you can not use this library to create another library with similar functionality (i.e. another Ajax library). And yes, you can use the widgets in DNN modules, check this: http://ajaxwidgets.com/Blogs/Kariem/ajax_carousel_dnn.bb
