Earn €10,000 while saving the Earth [Gaia Programming Contest]

20. Dec 2007

We in Gaiaware (formerly known as Frost Innovation) have just announced a programming contest, the object of the contest will be to create a GPL piece of software using Gaia Ajax Widgets that is beneficial to the earth in someway. Read the full contest rules here.

Gaia Ajax Widgets

Roughly explained we're hoping that someone will create an environmental portal or something similar that can serve as a meeting place for people interested in solving the earth's problems. We encourage people to use their creativity in this process all though within the objectives of the contest. Miguel de Icaza, Eirik Chambe-Eng and Dag Andersen in addition to your's sincerely (me, Thomas Hansen) will be the jury.

We have tried to avoid being too specific in the specification since we're hoping for creative new solutions that manages to solve the problems in a new way, but obviously since one of the rules are that it should use Gaia Ajax Widgets it must be an Ajax Application in someway. Also the software cannot be dependant upon Closed Source Software in anyway which means it has to compile and run on Mono which is Open Source. Also you MUST submit your entry (entries) before 1st of April 2008. You can start whenever you wish. Also teams can participate, but be careful to read the full contest rules before you start.

We hope as many as possible can participate and that we together can make a change that matters for the planet we all share and are so dependent upon!

You guys better read up on the GPL. You might wish that someone has to open up their code hosted on their own server, but it's just not the case. It's better if you just develop your own license, because the GPL isn't what you're looking for.

Good point, though you've missed the most crucial parts about Gaia Ajax Widgets which s that t contains TONS of JavaScript which actually is executed on the Client and therefore merely going onto a Gaia website is considered a "distribution"...
